Good chunk of council locations added tonight, Upper Hutt City Council and Waikato, Waimakariri, and Waimate District Councils! Only 7 more councils left before all council facilities for Paper/Cardboard, Metal cans and glass are on recyclemap!

In other news, a links section will be next in the works, with links to each councils respective recycling pages, along with links to all major recycling schemes. Then work will recommence on adding more Op Shops, as this seems to be a very popular category based on user metrics from Google!

Added “Marker Clustering” feature, which now means in areas with a lot of recycling locations, the markers will be combined into a single icon with the number of locations indicated. As you zoom in, the cluster will break apart to show you the actual locations. This should help keep the maps clear at higher zoom levels.

6 Rural transfer stations(Tūtira, Poukawa, Pukehamoamoa, Maraekākaho, Waimārama, Waipātiki) not added for Hastings as there are no available addresses to pinpoint accurate locations for them. If you know where they are please let me know!

Added marker data for Gore and Grey District councils.

On an unrelated note, the process for manually locating and entering the marker data can be incredibly frustrating at times, but also entirely validates this websites existence. Some council transfer stations are literally not locatable via the addresses or descriptions given. Sometimes a street that is several hundred metres long is the only address (“Dave St”). Others you might be lucky and it’ll be “Corner of “Frank St” or something, but a google street view or map does not show anything in the location, so who knows if it’s there or not. I have reached out to ALL councils of New Zealand, and had a mixed response, and so the process of manually tracking down as many transfer stations as possible, council by council, continues. I will not add stations that I am not comfortable with the location for.
