19/01/25

Added transfer stations and resource recovery parks for Taupō, Thames-Coromandel & Timaru District Councils, and Tauranga City Council.

07/01/25

Added Selwyn District Council recycling locations.

Fixed a number of incorrectly categorised markers.

Current statistics across all the map types currently live on the site:

  • Cardboard & Paper – 232 locations
  • Batteries – 251 locations
  • Polystyrene – 33 locations
  • Soft Plastics – 248 locations
  • Glass – 216 locations
  • Op Shops – 101 locations
  • Beverage Cartons – 80 locations
  • Cans – 230 locations
  • Cosmetics – 74 locations

This brings the total live number of markers to 1465. This is a little lower than previously reported as I now realise I’d been including the markers on a test map (whoops!).

Another interesting tid-bit is that the majority of traffic coming to the site are interested either in polystyrene recycling, or Op Shop locations.

10/10/24

Added location data for Kaikōura, Kaipara, Kāpiti Coast, Kawerau and Mackenzie District Councils.

Now at 1420 map markers across 10 different map categories.

20/9/24

Added marker data for paper, glass and tin cans for Auckland, Gisborne, & Western Bay of Plenty.
Added battery marker data for Western Bay of Plenty.
Now at 1306 markers across 10 maps.

15/9/24

Added the recycling transfer and drop-off station data points for both Whakatane and Ashburton District Councils. Now at 1098 markers across 10 maps.

Tidied import process up a little bit to deal with special characters in place names.

Removed the “labels” from showing on the maps as for some of the more popular recycling maps, the labels were adding a lot of clutter.

Changed map behaviour so you now need to click on the markers/points to open the information window. Before, hovering the mouse would bring up the information and make the map move to that points location.

14/09/24

Added the Refuse transfer stations and community recycling centres for the Far North District. We are now at 911 map markers across 10 maps. Station names need to be updated in the coming days as the import couldn’t handle accented characters.

11/09/24

Cosmetics map is now live. 75 Recycling stations across the country added that cover items such as makeup, hair products, razor blades and dental products and their associated packaging.

8/9/24 – Part 2

Enabled the ability to filter marker points by type (Free, Restrictions or charges)

Enabled the ability to search for recycling stations by address. Using your current location seems to be a little patchy with this feature.
